Also while at OCAC, I created new stamps for the approval of gay marriage. I met with and interviewed gay people in Taipei about their personal stories as gay men. I am also interviewed the general public about the issue of gay marriage, currently an important issue being debated in Taiwan. I asked my interviewees to contribute some materials related to the story they shared, and then I used these objects and the stories to design new stamps for each subject. The stamps relate to a traditional and still common practice in Taiwan, where people have their own stamps to use for certain documents. My new stamps represent each person he talked with, symbolizing some aspect of their story, and the material they provided to me throughout the interviews. Finally, I am also created his own, traditional Taiwanese stamp. With this project, I want to push people to think about gay people, and why they can’t legally marry.
